(Left) The Mid-Cal horses arrived in Kentucky July 16th after a 3-day trip across the country.

Gambler's Choice
(Above and Below) The evening of July 21, all of the Regular Show Jumping competitors (horse II and above) took part in a Gamblers choice for their second round score. A group of 15 or so jumps were set up in the former Rolex arena at the horse park close together and with no particular order. Riders then had to make up a course to jump as many jumps as possible in 50 seconds. You earn two points for any fence successfully jumped and no points if the horse refuses or takes a rail. The only other rule is that you can't jump any fence more than two times. With that in mind, and third in the order of go, Julie and Lira successfully jumped 11 fences before running out of time for a total of 22 points. Only two other competitors were able to beat that score with 12 jumps and 24 points.



Equitation
(Above)The third round of show jumping competition was an equitation round where the judge scores the horse and rider on their performance over the fences and throughout the course. This particular course included tasks such as trotting the first fence (shown above), halting for five seconds and proceding in counter canter to the second fence. Julie and Lira scored an 80 placing them 7th out of nearly 50 riders in the Regular division. Teammate Kristy Stapleton and Rasta scored and 89, the highest at the competiton.

Awards

(Right) After 3 1/2 days of competition the Mid-Cal Regular Show Jumping Team emerged victoious with 1st place ribbons, medals, comemerative plates, and buckets of goodies!
